About Autopista Central

A Spanish corporation founded in 2003, dedicated to highway management. It is the first highway concessionaire in Spain and the world’s leading operator by number of kilometers managed, with operations across fourteen countries in Europe and Latin America.

In Chile, it operates under the name Autopista Central and is the main operator of urban highways and key access routes to the capital city. The Chilean subsidiary generated revenues of approximately US$300 million in 2019.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Tecnova was responsible for the design, implementation, and go-live of the Daily Pass Management System. This system enables the administration of daily passes, which allow vehicles to travel on urban highways.

Daily passes are used by vehicles that do not have an authorized electronic toll collection device (TAG), enabling lawful use of concessioned highways and preventing infractions related to unauthorized transit.

The core functionalities implemented in the Daily Pass Management System include:

  • Registration of sold and used daily passes
  • Modification of pass activation dates
  • Management of pass refunds
  • Determination of daily pass usage by concessionaire
  • Execution of the clearing process

Based on this information, the system calculates the amounts corresponding to each concessionaire for a given period, according to pass usage and sales volume. The respective settlements are then processed during the period in which each highway operator is responsible for managing this process.

Additionally, the project scope included the implementation of a reporting module to support operational management and decision-making.

The Daily Pass Management System is integrated with the Highway Offenders Management System, also implemented by Tecnova during the same period. Daily pass data is consumed by the offenders system to prevent infractions related to transit without a TAG.

TECHNOLOGIES USED

Technical Aspects

The project was executed over a 10-month period, with partial releases delivered in stages. During its implementation, the project team included the roles of Project Manager, Software Engineers, Graphic Designer, and QA Analyst, all Tecnova professionals.

From a technology standpoint, the solution was implemented using JAVA for core processes and integrations, PHP for user interfaces, and Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures for database operations.
